Harley Street's History
The secret of life is not to do what you like but to like what you doAnonymous
Harley Street is one of the most famous streets in London, benefiting from a worldwide reputation as a centre of private medical and non-surgical excellence often referred to as Medical London, the largest concentration of medical proficiency in the world. There are reputedly 1,500 medical practitioners in and around the Harley Street region, and an extensive choice of clinics, specialists, and private hospitals providing services from dental treatment to cosmetic surgery.
Edward Harley inherited Harley Street from his wife, Henrietta Cavendish Hollis, and developed the grid of streets around Harley Street between 1715 and 1720. Today, the de Walden family owns Harley Street and the Howard de Walden Estate has been managing almost all of the 92 acres of real estate from Marylebone High Street, Portland Place and from Wigmore Street to Marylebone Road for the past 300 years. The Estate was responsible for the redevelopment of many of the houses in 1900, which followed strict guidelines to maintain the original Georgian style architecture. It has always been a passion for Debra Robson the director of Debra Robson LDN to provide a professional licensed full-time clinic in the heart of Medical London which is now firmly established over 15 years.
